To Sign in, or Log in?

July 12, 2019 by oliver

It’s a contentious debate and everyone has their opinion…. and here’s mine.

There are two actions a user could take when they land on a login page.

  • If they’re new to the service, it means they don’t have any access credentials. So in order to get access, they need to sign up. This provides them credentials to….
  • …LOG IN! When a user has credentials, that means they have signed up already and only needs to log in – hence the button: LOG IN.

So – new users Sign Up and existing users Log In.
